Sexual Assault

In the case of rape, the actions taken by the victim immediately following the attack are an important part of rape prevention. A rapist rarely stops with one victim. He/she can be stopped with immediate and successful prosecution.

A rape victim is a victim of a violent crime. Many times a victim may be afraid to make a sexual assault report. They may be embarrassed, or feel at fault.
Do report this crime.
Police officers are trained to see that the victim receives the psychological, emotional and medical support needed, in a confidential manner.

In the case of rape…
  • Call Public Safety immediately (810) 762-5666, or use the Emergency Call Boxes. Off-campus call 911.
  • Do not change clothes, douche or clean up
  • Do not throw anything away
  • Do not use any medication
  • Bring a clean change of clothes with you, if possible

Information most need by the police…

Often, the only witness in a rape case is the victim, it is important that he/she remember as much as possible about the assailant, including…..

  • car license plate number, year, make and model
  • race of the assailant
  • approximate age weight and height
  • color and length of hair
  • color of eyes
  • clothing
  • any unusual marks, scars, tattoos, rings, etc.
  • any belongings the assailant may have left at the crime scene

Domestic Violence and Stalking

Domestic violence is a serious problem effecting upwards of one million women per year.

Victims of domestic violence can receive personal protection orders (PPO's) which are enforcable by the MCC Department of Public Safety.

Stalking is a crime in Michigan as of January 1, 1993. Stalking involves unwanted, repeated or continuing harassment of another individual that would cause a reasonable person to feel terrorized, frightened, intimidated, harassed or molested. A person may press charges and/or obtain a PPO against a stalker.
