The mission of the library is to serve the information needs of students, faculty, staff and the community by providing:
- assistance from professional librarians in locating and using library resources for individuals and groups through personalized or group instructions
- a broad range of print, nonprint, and electronic resources that support the curriculum and are available for circulation and remote use
- up-to-date technology that allows access to the full range of library resources
- safe, attractive facilities that are conducive to study for individual and group use
Mott Community College students are the Library’s primary constituency. The needs of MCC students have priority over other patrons who are granted library privileges for the purpose of research, quiet study, or entertainment. All library users are expected to respect the rights and property of others and to treat library resources and facilities with appropriate care and respect.

- Present identification upon request
- Comply with library circulation policies
- Respond to emergency and security gate alarms and other situations as instructed by staff; leave the library at closing and limit use of the library to authorized areas only
- Limit cell phone use to short and quiet conversations. Extended conversations should be conducted outside of the library

Disciplinary or legal action may also be taken in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
Federal and Michigan State laws, local regulations and Mott Community College policies, including the Student Code of Conduct, Acceptable Use Policy, and Workplace Violence and Sexual Harassment policies, apply within the Mott library. All referenced campus policies may be found at www.mcc.edu.
- Step 1
If you are not observing the Mott Community College Library Code of Conduct, a staff member will ask you to comply and give you a flyer describing the compliance policy. If you comply, no additional action will be taken. Your cooperation with library staff is expected. Library staff will be polite and non-threatening toward you. Library users are expected to be polite and non-threatening to others in the library, and respect other library users. If you do not cooperate with staff or fail to comply with the request, the process moves to Step 2.
- Step 2
If you are asked a second time to comply for the same offense or a different offense on the same day or a different day, and/or you do not cooperate with the request politely and quietly, you will be asked for your identification and asked to leave the building. Step 2 may include a referral to meet with the Library Director (or representative) and/or the Mott Registrar. If you refuse to provide identification and leave the building, the process moves to Step 3.
- Step 3
If you refuse to provide identification and leave the Library, Campus Safety will be called. If Campus Safety is called, you will be escorted from the Library, an incident report will be completed, and your library privileges will be revoked.
Egregious offenses will be handled accordingly. |
