Starting
in the 1960's, incoming National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of Fame
Coach Ernie Myers fashioned a program that won 11 Conference
Championships, three Region XII Championships, and three top
Ten finishes in the NJCAA National Championship tournaments.
The Bears are rich in tradition for not only having Coach Ernie Myers involvement. The Bears also have three former coaches who are currently coaching at a higher level as well: Steve Lyons, Grand Valley State University; Dan Shelton, Saginaw Valley State University; and Doug Greenslate, Aquanis University. Today's team competes in the Michigan
Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA), one of the
toughest leagues in the Nation, and has gained a reputation as
being a contender for Conference, State and Regional titles.
Home games are held at the newly renovated diamond at Kearsley
Park. This is one of the best fields in the Region 12 Conference.
The Bears have received honors both on the baseball field as well as in the classroom. Trevor Cousineau and Brett Cousino finished with 2nd team All-Region honors. Roger Christenson was named MCCAA defensive player of the year. Academic All-American Trevor Cousineau achieved a 3.7 GPA and Tyler Hooks was named as an Academic All-State with a 3.53 GPA. The Bears batted to .312 as a team this year which ranks 3rd on the all time list in MCC’s 40 year history in baseball. |
