Objective: Each month from September through May, a specially chosen program will be offered to inspire, rejuvenate, stimulate and refresh!
Each program will feature a unique lecture and will be accompanied with a continental breakfast and door prizes.

David Littman – Graphology (Handwriting Analysis)

Mr. Littman will explain what Graphoanalysis is - the study of human personality through handwriting analysis. It is now an accepted and increasingly used technique for the assessment of people. He embarked into the study of Graphology after a successful career as an economist. He has made regular appearances on 760 WJR Radio covering current economic news, and you will likely recognize his "Golden Voice"!

Ric Mixter – Famous Shipwrecks of the Great Lakes

While his name is recognized for his reporting on WNEM and WJRT television, he is best known for sharing maritime history with millions of viewers on PBS and the Outdoor Channel. He is one of the most requested speakers around the Great Lakes, sharing stories from wrecks he has visited personally from century old schooners to the giant Edmund Fitzgerald. Join historian Ric Mixter as he dives into the mystery of these shipwrecks. He will explore those ships that are still missing and share rare underwater video of the ships that have been discovered.

Dr. Mike Heberling – Michigan’s Role in the Cold War

"Dr. Mike" has an interesting presentation of the three B-52 bomber bases in Michigan: Kinchloe in Sault Ste. Marie, K. I. Sawyer in Marquette, and Wurtsmith in Oscoda. Each B-52 had a crew of six that were "on alert" and prepared to go to war against the Soviet Union. The planes were loaded with nuclear bombs and missiles. Come and hear this important piece of Michigan history.

Barbara Kincaid – Victorian Holiday Traditions

Historian Barbara Kincaid will present holiday traditions of the nineteenth century circa 1870 through 1918. As a milliner, she has conducted independent research in the field of fashion, and will appear in period dress for this program. The lecture will focus on Victorian dress and traditions in Victorian England.

Doris Ethier – Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute - Clinical Trials

The Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute has approximately 90 studies which cover a wide range and variety of cancers, including, newly diagnosed cancer patients and those that have failed conventional treatment. The 1937 UAW Sit-Down Strike was a milestone not only for the United Auto Workers (UAW), but also a key point in the history of the City of Flint. This presentation will explore the social, economic and cultural changes, and also the consequences this event precipitated.

Len Thomas – Durand Train Wrecks: The Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus Train Disaster (1903) and The Knights Templar Disaster (1923)

There were two major train disasters in or near Durand, MI, twenty years apart. This presentation highlights the theorized causes of both train wrecks and how quickly this entire community rallied to give aid to the victims.

Jaqueline Kennedy is one of our most beloved American First Ladies. Her life had its joys, sorrows and triumphs. Fashion and Social Historian, Barbara Kincaid, will take you behind the scenes to see how Mrs. Kennedy conducted herself with dignity and grace. There will also be a display of Jackie’s memorabilia to impart even more insight into this fascinating woman.
